Description
It would be good to have acting combatant information available all the time. This allows users to check for powers, effects and other notes.
The idea is to have something like this:
View of a single panel view
Some important comments:
- In order to have a good usage of space, we need to get rid of most of the specialized panes, joining them into a single area Multi-Function Display (MFD)
- To make this workable, there must be a simple way to select who is the acting combatant.
- MFD should be tightly linked to what the user want to do at a give moment. A simple buttons or keyboard short cuts should be used.
- Kick way to get a MFD would be to create colapsible panels and put them all the panel in them. This should improve use of space.

This would be good. Would it be possible to be able to resize each one of those sections? (Ie, if every 'wall' was moveable)
The MFD I can see would be an exceptional addition.
Any keyboard shortcuts that can be added for anything will always be beneficial & welcome..
The collapsible panels idea in the MFD is a great way to get the ball rolling. In fact, is it possible to do the same for all panels in the entire VCC interface? (ie, have all sections collapsible...). This way enabling more user control over the interface. With the ability to resize all and minimize all (or collapse), the user could increase the amount of space available for the MFD for a short period and then go back to original view of the screen. Having a shortcut that instantly resizes everything to the default positions would be awesome, or even to a user specified position would be fantastic...
I guess it is important to keep in mind the desire to make a simple UI that is not like "filling in a tax form". However, if the program can be made to be simple in its default settings and yet customizable to a more complex interface for users who want to delve deeper into VCC's functionality, that could be the workaround.. To make the program easy and yet more complex for those who want to go deeper down the rabbit hole is an appealing notion.
You might have to start charging money for it though... ;-)

The MDF needs some testing and concepts. My current plan is to have something where you follow the flow of a battle:
This however will take a long time to make. Pieces of this will be coming along the way. Also note that what we have currently in VCC would be the "DM Mode", where you are not tied to a workflow.
As for this point:
You might have to start charging money for it though... ;-)
VCC will not be commercial. I love Open Source and think as an such it will be much more interesting, inclusive and easy to maintain.

You can always put a donation request up on your frontpage.
People who appreciate the program can then donate some money.
Me for example would gladly give you some extra money, I have lying around.

Issue #125: Use docking frame to allow reorganizing interface has opened space for a more effective use of area and should open space for the inclusion of the acting combatant information on it's own panel.
I think the the MFD idea will have to be left for another full version. New panels and or pop-ups should handle some of the functionality. Tighter control maybe should be left for the future.
