Virtual Combat Cards - D&D 4th Edition Initiative and Combat Tracker

Virtual Combat Cards (VCC) is a Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition combat tracker. It is designed to assist Dungeon Masters in running combats and keeps track of the health, initiative, conditions and effects of all the combatants in a battle. Keeping things simple yet effective is the main design goal.

Best of all VCC is free and multi-platform. It is an Open Source project (see more information visit the project page). VCC it is written in Scala and runs on the Java Runtime Environment, so you can run it on any machine that supports Java. It has been successfully tested on Windows, Linux, MAC.

Virtual Combat Cards will track the following:

  1. Health
    • Damage
    • Temporary Hit points
    • Healing
    • Dying
    • States (Bloody, Dying, Dead)
  2. Initiative sequence, including:
    • Determining Initiative
    • Ready action
    • Delay
    • Turns taken
    • Combatants in reserve (those that can enter the combat)
  3. Tracking of effects and conditions via:
    • Adding effect and condition, with special care with the mark condition, effect with stance duration;
    • Automatically expire effect and conditions that end at the start or end of a given combatants turn;
    • Keep track of sustainable effects;
    • Provide an area to write down notes on the creatures conditions;

Besides tracking information there as several features to make it help you run the game:

User can control where all the information is placed. Separate screens, all in one, hidden frames, etc. Layout the screen in the best way to help you run the battle.
Monster Capture (version 1.0.0)
In addition to this, with version 1.0, VCC can capture information from the D&D Insider Compendium. This makes it easy to collect vital monster data, including the complete stat block. You can collect you favorite monsters, assemble encounters and have all vital data in a single screen.
Undo and Redo (version 0.30.0)
Since it's early releases VCC has had the ability to undo and redo the entire combat. Using Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Y to redo a step in the combat. This is valid for every tracked aspect, including damage, initiative actions, effect and even the notes.

Virtual Combat Cards can help you run your game, taking away much of the bookkeeping and of the math.
